Breast Lift vs. Breast Augmentation: Which One Is Right for Me?

At Ageless Impressions – Plastic Surgery Institute, two of our most sought-after cosmetic procedures are breast augmentation and breast lift surgery. While both aim to enhance the appearance of the breasts and improve nipple position, each surgery is designed with different goals in mind, as explained below.

A breast lift focuses on combating breast sagging (or “ptosis”), which often accompanies aging, weight changes, or pregnancy. Dr. Richards can address ptosis by removing excess skin and raising (or “lifting”) the breasts to a higher, more youthful position on the chest wall. He does this while sewing the breast tissue onto itself to increase projection and improve shape. Meanwhile, breast augmentation specifically aims to increase breast size and improve their shape using breast implants.

While breast lift surgery can improve the shape of the bustline, it cannot restore lost volume in the chest. Similarly, breast augmentation alone generally cannot correct significant ptosis. For this reason, Dr. Richards sometimes needs to combine the two procedures to achieve a more comprehensive enhancement.

Every patient’s needs and goals are unique. Whatever your preferences, Dr. Richards can usually create a customized treatment plan to achieve your desired results. Contact us today to learn more!
